installation was interrupted for some reason.
Go to the Legacy folder on your hard drive and delete the legacy.lng
file.
Then go to our website and download the update from there (you won't be
able to get into Legacy to update from there until the file is
restored by
updating from our website).
Thanks for the quick response :-)
I don't quite know how to interpret your answer (could be the time of
night here). Are you saying to download the full, 16.3Mb set-up file and
before running it, delete the legacy.lng file?
If so, then the suggestion doesn't work :-( I get a message box entitled
Install saying, "An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is
normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt in stallation file"
This happens when the installation is trying to copy legacy.exe! As I
said previously, I think the files on the website need a refresh.
Mike,
You didn't say what OS you are using. I'm assuming it is MS Windows.
Here is my advice from when I was a help desk tech who assisted (via
telephone) customers installing printers and software.
1. Uninstall Legacy after a restart.
a. Use the Legacy Uninstaller and uninstall Legacy.
b. Update and run your spy ware killer program, if you have one.
c. Update and run you anti virus program.
d. Disconnect from the Internet after downloading a fresh copy of
Legacy.
e. Bring up Windows Explorer; go to the Windows Temp subdirectory,
delete its contents. If using XP or 2000, clean the Windows Prefetch
subdirectory also. And delete the Legacy subdirectories. But do not
delete the Temp and Prefetch subdirectories, only contents.
2. Clean up your hard drive.
a. Go to START//PROGRAMS//ACCESSORIES//SYSTEM TOOLS//
and run DISK CLEANUP.
b. From the same place run DISK DEFRAGMENTER. This may be time
consuming, but it gets your drive organized and provided a nice big
clean space for the installation.
3. Turn off as much background programs as possible before installing
your fresh copy of Legacy.
a. Restart PC. Better yet, turn it off for 2 minutes and then start it.
b. Disable firewall, anti virus, etc.
c. There are many other things one can do if install fails, but here
is a good starting place. (Other things like disable startup group,
win.ini, and system.ini or restart in safe mode for the install.)
4. Install your fresh new copy of Legacy.
5. Restart PC and reconnect to Internet. (Firewall and anti virus should
restart automatically with the PC restart.
GOOD LUCK.
Regardless whether I am (re)installing software, every weekend I do
cleanup and defrag. I also have a registry cleanup program I like to
run weekly. I have never had to reformat any of my PCs. I bought
my first PC in 1983. I have built one. Now I have 4 PCs running Win95,
WinME, WinXP, and Linus (Susa and Mepis). I used Win98 and 2000
when I worked at the help desk. I have used PCs while living in
Germany, Denmark, and USA. While I don't consider myself an
expert, I am fairly good.
