Thanks for the sugggestion Gene, but this was actually how I set it up in the first place. I hadn't realised that when I cut and pasted the sentence definition for my message that I was using one of the many variations that I'd tried.

Cheers
Jan

Hello All,
I have been trying to create an event that I know will only be used as a Marriage event. I have called it 'Husband Deserted Wife'. I have set the sentence definition as: The marriage ended when [FirstName] is said to have deserted [WifeFirstName] [onDate] and gone [toDesc].[Sources] [Notes]
What I get is: The marriage ended when Fred and Mary is said to have deserted Mary and gone to the Moon.
(I have selected Do not have a Place field.)

Edit it to read "The marriage ended when [HusbFirstName] is said to have deserted [WifeFirstName] [onDate] and gone [toDesc].[Sources] [Notes]" and it will work correctly.

Note; Changed [FirstName] to [HusbFirstName].
