The LDS Libraries I have used did not have a place to load a flashdrive on the microfilm viewers. However, the one in my local area did allow me to put the legacy program on one of the computers. That didn't help with saving images to it unless they were online images using one of their subscriptions to Ancestry and such, but did allow me to access my Legacy files and make modifications without taking a bunch of equipment.

At the LDS Family History Library in Naperville (a suburb of Chicago
IL), one of the microfilm viewers will download images straight to the
flash drive. That's why I purchased the flash drive. I do NOT know if
most LDS centers have this feature as yet or not.

As for the local (Rochester MN) public library, the only thing they'll
save to is a floppy disk (the A: drive).

A small scanner sounds like a GREAT idea!

Just how do you get the image from the book or microfilm onto the flash
drive while at the library? The only way I know to do it is to make a
photocopy, take it home and scan it into the computer.

I just bought a USB memory stick (called a flash drive or jump drive, has

256 MB

capacity) down at Best Buy. I bought it so that I have a way to store

microfilm

or book images from my trips to the library and Family History Center.
