Ed, I guess a lot depends upon if you get to travel as you do genealogy, and if you have ancestors from difficult to locate places... I live out west (US), and some of my husband's ancestors lived out in the middle of nowhere- one cemetery was SO hard to find (in the middle of Nebraska). A kind woman at the county office finally stood me in front of a big county map and described in detail how to get there. It included things like "about 1/2 mile down that road will be another dirt road off to your left. It goes up the hill. Take it, and just as you get to the top of the hill is a tiny cemetery off to the right. It's all overgrown, but there is a sign at the front". Now I know I can find anything with the geo database- provided you have a GSP of course. You can even make finding cemeteries and other locations a game with your kids (of any age- if you have them :-). Make a geo caching course with ancestors landmarks! It's a whole new world of adventure. But, seriously, the coolest thing is that you can have an exact location of things that future generations can find, not based on changing things like "the old tree", "the broken down fence" or Mr Palmer's farm (100 years from now it may be much harder to know which farm that is). You can use it to locate a cemetery, a house, a church, or any specific piece of ground that may be important to you or your ancestors. And you can use preserve that information for your posterity. You can even use it to pinpoint for others things like unmarked graves, the old family well, where your father proposed to your mother, etc. Just use a GSP when you visit the site, and record the coordinates. Hope this helps some... I am sure others have even more ideas. Susan :-)

This is NOT a complain, mind you... I've downloaded all sections of the geo location database, imported them, compressed them... now what? what do you use this feature for? It looks like it's probably right handy - I'm just not yet sure for what! The 'help' topic tells me HOW to use it, but I'm hoping someone here can tell my WHY to use it? Thanks in advance!
