Robert, Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I had planned on opening it into a new file by itself as there is a lot of his info that I would not want or need. I will tell him to send it GEDCOM 5.5. Do those other character formats make any difference - UTF-8, UNICODE, ANSEL, ANSI??? Thanks again. Ruth M.

S/he should be able to make it for you and send it to you. Legacy will import a GEDCOM 5.5 file without any problem, but if you plan to import this into your database *please* play it safe and open the Gedcom in a new file by itself and see if you really want to import it into your file. A friend is sending me a GEDCOM file from his PAF 5.2 program. He has asked how he should send it - PAF 5 or GEDCOM5.5 - in UTF-8, UNICODE, ANSEL or ANSI format. How should I tell him to send it? I have no idea what all of the above means. I would appreciate any help you can give me on this situation. Thanks. Ruth M.
