You probably need to change the settings for "Military Service" in the Master Event List. View > Master Lists > Event Definition, then select Military Service and select Edit. Then check the box next to "Show Description Field". (You can also get to the same screen from the drop down arrow next to any event).
Although this should fix this specific problem, it is probably just fixing one symptom, not the cause. How did you transfer your files to the new machine? It is safest to back up from within Legacy on the old machine, and then restore within Legacy on the new machine. This way all the settings associated with that database get transferred as well. If you need more details of how to do this let us know, or search the archives over the last week as it was described there.
