You're right...I just tried it. Evne if you export a person and say 'supress details of living', sources still show up
I guess you need to remove the sources tag under the section 'customize' before you export, but that removes ALL sources, not just those of the living. The problem I have is that I also included my sources, and some of the source information for the living people includes names and dates that should be kept private.
