Better to keep it in Legacy if possible. However, I have taken files
from Legacy such as you have and put their gedcoms into PAF and then did
global repairs on them. Worked well for me. I then made a new gedcom
and made a new file in Legacy and saved the old ones on CD.

A couple of years back, I gave a copy of my Legacy family files to a
cousin to get him started. Last week he returned the files with all
the data he has input.
I thought it would be easy to merge the two files... BUT, since giving
him my data base, I have changed ALL of my location files to show the
Long Location with the word "County" added to the second position and
the name of the state spelled out, instead of abbreviated.
So, none of the 5,000 records from his file will Auto Merge into my
existing file with the new location structure, leaving me to click the
Manual Merge key at least 5000 times.
Or, maybe it would be less work to import his file and then go to the
Master Location List and merge his abbreviated locations into my new
format?
Does anybody have a suggestion as to how a "lazy man" might get the
machine to do most of the heavy lifting in this case?
Would it work to import My 15,000 into His 5,000 and have the import
"Always overwrite the existing location items with the incoming
location items"?
Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.
Jim
