Hi Virginia,
I'll try to offer a little help here for you. When you type something
for the first time into a location box, it gets saved automatically
into the Master Location list as both the Long Name and the Short
Name. For all your existing names on the Master Location List, you
will need to go in and edit them in the format you like (long and
short).

In the future, when you add a new location, you should immediately
click on the little blue arrow/triangle to the right of the box. The
Master Location List will pop up, and you can then click on Edit to
correct the Short Location Name to your preferred format. (Since I
live in the US, for my short names I just use the town name and the
abbreviation for the state since my reports will be for my relatives
here. I leave the county, full state name, and country on the Long
Name since that gets posted up onto the Internet and has an
international audience.)

I presume, from your email below, that your preferred format for
reports would have a Short Location Name as in the example below. Be
sure to check the report options "Format" tab to enable "Use short
location names". Unfortunately, you can't globally have it print out
the word County, so just try to edit them as you enter the locations.

Master Location entered as: Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA
Short name edited as: Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts

[By the way, watch out for inadvertently "entering" locations before
you have completely finished typing the full name. Tabbing in and out
of the location box will save whatever was written there before, even
if you continue to edit the Location. Hope this note isn't confusing.]

If you have already entered a lot of state abbreviations, you can
globally "Search and Replace" them, which I had to do about a month
into using Legacy!

Any other questions, please ask.
Susan
