Sorry, irregardless does appear to be a word. It is a transmogrification of regardless.
According to Websters dictionary... Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. I've never used irregardless but... I didn't know about the word y'all until I moved to Texas and I do use it now... :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich Heimlich" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 08, 2005 12:50 PM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] One email address regardless of ISP change - off topic J & K Sindberg wrote: > It is nice to have the same email address irregardless Sorry but the above is one of my pet peeves. There is no such word as irregardless. It's just "regardless". People often use that thinking of "irresponsible" which is the opposite of "responsible". Regardless is already the opposite of "regard". Adding "ir" to the front of it, if it were valid, would essentially make it the opposite of what you meant. <grin> By the way, it's a word I used to use myself until I ran into an editor who would climb the walls when it was submitted to him.
