I just found what I think is an error in the export of a GEDCOM. I was exporting a portion of my file to a GEDCOM in order to import it into a charting program.

After the import I noticed that the second spouse of one of the people was missing from the chart. Only the first spouse and the children of that marriage were included.

I went back to the GEDCOM and found the following anomalies:

For the second spouse:

a. The second spouse was included in the Individuals section complete with all the information on the person.

b. In searching for that individuals Individual tag number I found that the person was not included in any FAM records.

I then checked the other spouse with the following results:

The persons INDI tag appeared:

a. In the FAM record for the family in which they were a child

b. In a FAM record where they were the spouse in the first marriage

c. There was no other FAM record where the doubly married spouse appeared. In effect there was no FAM record for this couple.

The situation is this:

This second marriage was later in life for both parties and there are no children. There is a marriage date and place however. There was another multiple marriage situation in the branch and that was included in the transfer but there were children of both marriages.

I tried setting the "this couple had no children" flag and exported again but the situation did not change.

I then went in and connected one of the children of the first marriage to the couple, making the second spouse a step parent.

When I repeated the export with the same focus group I noted that there was no change in the number of people but one extra family had been added and low and behold the second marriage now appears in the FAM section with both people.

It looks like the people selection portion of the export works in selecting all the people but the section that prepares the family entries is not generating a FAM record for a couple unless they have children.

Has anyone else noticed this anomaly? I searched the list archives and could not find anything that was similar? If the anomaly has been noticed does anyone know if it has been reported to Legacy Support? I haven't created a problem report yet but will do so if this is the first time the error has been noticed.
