Thanks Jack for the enlightenment.  I didn't know that.  I have looked for 
keyboards on the Internet, have seen keyboards on sites in the UK, but have 
never seen a picture up close to notice a difference.

My corner of the World is so small.<hehe>

That all depends where you live. I presume you mean an American keyboard.
The layout of keyboards differs slightly in many countries, from the days of
manual typewriters.

Here in the UK the standard layout of modern keyboards has the "pipe" |
character to the left of the Z, with the \ character.

Just above the Enter key it is on the same key as \.  On laptops this could
be different and on non standard keyboards this may be different.
