Dennis, I also think of the "short name" as my report name, and it is also
sometimes longer than the "long name." However, I don't like the look of
this same "short name" in my charts because it is still too long. Do you
print many charts? If so, do you modify your short location names or do you
just live with the truncated output? It doesn't bother you? Just
curious...

I use the short name as the name I would like to see in charts and
reports. In some cases, it is LONGER than the long name. This may be
exactly the opposite of what it was intended for, but it works for me.
In other words, when I see "short name" I think "report name".
