Hi Myrna,
I've jumped in the middle of your conversation as I haven't been following
along.... but thought I'd send along my 2 cents :-)
I have all my pics in their own folders under 'general' headings...
Legacy Photos
Census
Documents
Headstones
Land Deeds
Letters and Postcards
Locations
Maps
Misc
Military
News Articles
People
-Chart Photos
Anderson
Batson
Christensen
(and so on)
Publications
Research Files
Newspapers
This allows me to divide up my photo files to make burning CD's (or DVD's)
easy and yet still makes it easy to find what I want quickly...
As a side note... I also have the majority cross referenced within Legacy
with their 'Source ID #' (i.e.: Census 1, Census 2, Census 3, Document 1,
Document 2 and so on...
Hopefully something I've written here will be of some help to you....
Happy researching!
Connie

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] photo locations
Good idea Glen, Thanks. Because I already have soooo many photos
I do not want to rename. At least when I originally named them it
was well thought out and I like the way it is but I did want each
group in their own folder, i.e.,
J:\genealogy\photos\cemeteries\many headstone photos
J:\genealogy\photos\Brown family\many different people
J:\genealogy\photos\Ponder family\many different people
J:\genealogy\photos\Roberts, etc., etc.
or
does everything have to be in the one directory, i.e.,
J:\genealogy\photos\brown, james.jpg
J:\genealogy\photos\ponder, abner.jpg, etc.
In other words, if I put all the photos in different directories
will legacy get to all the sub-directories? I may not be
explaining this very well. It is too hot here and no air
conditioner, just fans and my retired brain is not working well.
