Connie,
Suppose a distant cousin is interested in 1/8 or less of your collection of
family pictures. How do you copy the branch pictures? If you send a DVD with

"all" pictures, how does another researcher copy the right pictures with
captions to a different genealogy program?

Hi E.Rodier,

My original post was how I organize my photos on my hard drive for use in
Legacy. I use Legacy for what it does best... record research data. I use
another program (Adobe Elements v4 and the included Photo Organizer) for
most of my photo work.

Using my filing system (I just sent a more detailed reply to Diane under the
subject line of 'Back to Photo Basics") it is easy to select (by surname)
the photos to include in a CD to send to a distant cousin (without any
additional photo program), but with using Adobe's Photo Organizer the job is
simplified considerably. Hopefully I won't stray 'off Legacy topic' too much
by mentioning the Adobe program.

The Photo Organizer provides a wonderful tool (tagging) where you can 'tag'
each photo with basically a limitless number of custom tags. Within the
program I tag all photos with the surname(s) and often with other data (such
as first name, location, timeframe, etc). Then if I want to burn a CD or DVD
with only Batson photos, or with only Missouri photos or with only William
Batson photos 'in' Missouri I select those tags and viola... A custom CD or
DVD with only the info I selected is burned :-)

Hope that helps :-)
