On my lapstop, on which I have not yet upgraded Legacy from Deluxe 6.0__? to
the latest version, I did a Potential problems check ca a week ago and have
been correcting everything I could since then. Last night I did a File
Maintenace check and only got one error -- namely a first cousin's husband
on his parent's family page showed him up as female (i.e., in red--my women
are red, not black--I don't know why). This is a file I imported several
months ago as a gedcom from an FTM 10 file and having been using without
problems since. He was in the correct (I.e., husband) position when I did
an edit.
I used Help but could not understabnd the directions for gender change. So
I simply put him in again as a new son and entered the little data that I
had. Then I deleted the original (red) husband/son. But after that when I
did an edit he and/or the new son showed up in the WIFE position and I
couldn't link him to a wife.
So I used the View, Name list and went to my first cousin (Bessie) and there
she is showing MULTIPLE husbands (she was only married once) and when I
clicked on the husbands icon, it wouldn't open and I got some kind of
message about individual #1523 (not the MRIN, which was 414 I think). I
can't remember if I attempted to edit her -- if I did the husband field was
blank, though the husbnd icon showed multiple husbands,
By this time Legacy was totally frozen and I could not maneuver around in
it. I couldn't even exit it, though I was able to click on File, Exit --
but nothing happened. I could click on the x in the red box and close
it -- it didnot ask if I wanted to back up.
Fortunately I had backed up the file before I did the File Maintenance
Check/Repair.
So my questions:
1. what should I do next? (please just tell me what to click on--otherwise I
simply cannot follow the directions--sorry!)
2. how do I change the gender (again, please tell me what to click on)?
3. why on earth did deleting somebody cause such problems and why was he
still there (apparently) in my first cousin Bess's files?
4. Why did he not show up as a potential problem instead of on eht File
Maintenance Check/Repair.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME!
