We had our opinions on the openness of standards with OpenSearch,

What CC license are they using? Who thinks there's something wrong with
it, and what do they think is wrong?
Well, an open license only controls what others can do with your stuff,
it doesn't impact at all what the entity publishing the standard does
with it.
I'm not sure that a fork-happy license is the right thing to do for
specifications.
OpenSearch is CC SA 2.5 according to
http://opensearch.a9.com/license.jsp (with a trademark on OpenSearch).
Oasis-open.org just does all rights reserved for docbook, and a custom
license for OpenDocument. W3C seems to be even more restrictive than
OpenDocument, AFAICT.
