This issue is a matter of principle: Is leJOS a multi-platform Mindstorms programming language/environment? Or is it an OS-specific system that might, but might not, at some indeterminate point in the future be ported to whatever OSes didn't make it in the first release?

The answer to these questions answer weather or not leJOS must include support for all OSes at any cost in all releases.

Speaking for myself, a leJOS release without Mac OS X support would be about as useful as an umbrella in a hurricane. 100% of what I do with Mindstorms is done through my trusty old iBook.

Now, I realise that, should leJOS 3 be released withoug Mac support, I would be (almost) no worse off than I am now. Almost, becuase if I try to collaborate on a project with someone using leJOS 3, then that will most likely not work. Regardless, this is, as stated, a matter of principle.

PS: Matthias, how about a release?
The Mac OS X version still does not work (unless someone other than me has worked on fixing it).

As a matter of fact, I'm presently working on a LeJOS3.0.0 M4 milestone that will contain all the adjustments with respect to the feedback that came in for M3. I'd like to label it as a release candidate for Window and Linux; however, as Andy pointed out, the MacOSX version still is not working as desired. As I can't do anything about this (amongst other things, Sourceforge's Mac compile farm is and may remain off-line) and I'm not sure about the actual state of works on this by others, I'd like to rise the question how we will proceed here:

- Should we target for a leJOS 3.0.0 release without MacOSX version and leave that to a possible leJOS 3.0.1? Advantage would be that we are likely to come out with leJOS 3.0.0 pretty quick in such a case; drwaback of course the lack of MacOSX support.

- Or should we integrate MacOSX support into leJOS 3.0.0 by all means? In such a case, we would need some MacOSX guy that will actually work on this, and some kind of timeline; otherwise, a leJOS 3.0.0 release might be unreasonably delayed.

What do the others think?

Regards,
  Matthias Paul
