Oh, I spoke too soon! There was an EARLY attempt at an optical mouse made for ADB macs, I remember using it at an old job of mine.
It's called the "Little Mouse" made by Mouse Systems. It's quite a bit slimmer than the standard Apple mouse of the time (hence, the name "little" mouse).
