Possible, I suppose, but I don't want to destroy the validity of
private files absent an overwhelmingly good reason.  Private files
ought to be valid backup files.

Perhaps more to the point, I don't want to change the internals of the
present fundamental merge algorithm.  The present code works as is.

 I suspect the problem is that Leo gets confused by the changed name
of the file: the contents of the files probably don't matter.

Anyway, I expect to fix this before Leo b4.
