taa, thanks for sharing your experiences and thought processes. Many
of them mirror my own.

In my time here I've come to the conclusion that "read the code" in
answer to a question  is shorthand for "I'm too busy to think about
this and compose a thoughtful reply, but I'm also not going to just
let it slide by without comment" and that bringing up the issue again
in a different context will occasionally elicit an informative
response. Especially when things are quiet on the list (which hasn't
happened much lately).
