The previous post, Deconstructing Screenbook Maker, ended with the following question:
Is there a real advantage to creating the slideshow pages automatically? Let's list the pros and cons: Advantages to automating with Leo: - Full control over process. - Maximal scripting flexibility - Ability to add @x nodes if useful to guide the process. - Independence from Screenbook Maker. Advantages to using Screenbook Maker: - Screen shots tools. - Can add callout graphics. - Can package many files into a single screenbook. - Uses sophisticated stylesheets and other tools like xslt. - Tested. I have no clear intuition about which might (eventually) be the best course of action. However, there are two ways forward without resolving this question: 1. I'll play with Screenbook Maker to learn its strengths. Screenbook Maker might be good enough as it is. However, I'm lazy enough to try other approaches :-) 2. We (meaning I and anyone else who is interested) could design a suite of Screenbook-like tutorials using a Leo outline. This outline would be like a movie storyboard: each node would give the words to be used an a description (in words or as an outline) of what we want the corresponding screenshot to look like.
