Just deleted it.  There were still font references, for example:

It's not correct to delete the entire style attribute (because then
white numerals turn black), but it does work to delete
font-family:Bitstream Vera Sans.

The new version of arrows.svg is on the trunk at rev 3463.

Thanks for your help, Terry.  It's nifty to edit images this way.
