Imo, all MacOS code deserves the label "experimental".  Support for
MacOS appears to be a bit of an afterthought for the Qt people.  It's
not hard to understand why...

Apparently, application menus disappear with the qt-tabs gui in
effect.  I have no idea why.  The workaround is to use the plain qt
gui.

I've just added another item for this and will look into it before the
next release, whatever it is called.  However, I'm not sure that much
can be done...
