In the Ubuntu template of myLeoSettings.leo there is a node called "Vim bindings" with detailed instructions. Dont' know if this comes with the 4.9 final ZIP file. But I generally think that the overall documentation is so fragmented that it's hard to figure out what's relevant and what's outdated or irrelevant :-( I guess this is the price of having so much possibilities to customize the beast to one's needs ;) One thing is frustrating: When I'm in the outline pane, and I use "j" or "k" in command mode, the mode immediately switches back to insert mode so that I have to press "Esc" after every keystroke.
