Yes.  Tedious is a good word.  Invention has a lot of that.

What we have, or would have, it we could only remember where, is
pretty great right now :-)

Yes again.   Would a central repository help?  Maybe.  There is
searching, with keywords, but I am dubious.  How to enforce useful
keywords?
