Right. Whenever this happens what I do is to split the text in several 
other nodes using section references. It fixes the problem. And I can keep 
syntax highlight turned on.

So far, I have seen this issue with R, latex and rest nodes whenever syntax 
highlight is turned on (which usually is for me).

I do not know whether Leo has an importer for R. I usually start writing 
the file from scratch directly in Leo.
