Here is an excellent tutorial on using linux software to make tutorials.

What works for me is is to do a quick storyboard on a piece of paper, in 
essence I write out the steps of what I am going to cover. Then I record 
the video running this script in my head as I do the actions. Then I go 
back and view the video while recording the sound track. Then I put them 
together. The key to good tutorials for Leo using this toolchain appears to 
be having a larger font in the different Leo panes and restricting the 
screen capture to a reasonable size. Using 14pt fonts and a 1024X768 screen 
size seems to work well. I know Edward uses Camtasia, but it is not 
available for linux. There is another free software package that is cross 
platform called Wink. I may load it up here in the next week or so to take 
a look.
