Thanks for the links. I appreciated Andrew Price's frankness about the
(big) mistakes in his Improving Blender Usability project, and the lessons
learned from the process. His willingness to laugh at himself over that
does him credit.

I think Leo's current state is nicely captured by his quote of Alan Cooper
(~24min) "*...the goals of the programmer and the goals of the user are
dramatically different. The programmer wants the construction process to be
smooth and easy. The user wants the interaction with the program to be
smooth and easy. These two objectives almost never result in the same
program." *(from Inmates are Running the
Asylum<http://www.isbnsearch.org/isbn/0672316498>
). It's probably fair to say that for Edward and the other folks who are
old hands the usability of Leo is awesome. :)

I find it somewhat disheartening that the only way out, given in the talk
anyway, is to assemble a UI team that has full control over the interface
design and doesn't come from either the user or developer camps. That's not
something I see happening for Leo anytime soon; the project just isn't at
that scale. Still, I enjoyed the talk and the thinking it's stirred up in
me.

cheers,

-matt
