Proposal for a simple fix: Include a small progress bar in the status
bar. When not actively doing something, it simply states 'idle' or
'ready' or something. When it's working on something, have it
continuously fill from 0 to 100%, say 10% every half second or so?
This should be toggleable, of course, as it could slow down some scripts.
