I love this kind of chatty style. I seem incapable of writing as well as you did. About the name "es": The "e" prefix means, "send to log pane". You could say it stands for "echo". Other examples: es_print, es_exception, ... The "s" suffix stands for "string". I use es a lot. The name follows the dictum, "the more often used a name, the shorter it should be". In other words, the most important thing about the name is that it is short ;-) Anyway, this is a great addition to Leo's tutorial material. Many thanks for creating it.
