Thanks for all your comments.  I'm glad we are all on the same page.

Rev b93f77a...now contains much simpler code.  Please report any new
problems immediately.

Removed tab cycling code, with the resulting collapse in code complexity.

Warning: lightly tested code: set new_arg = False in emergencies.

P.S. Imo, tab cycling would make more sense if the user could only see
one completion at at time, but not in this context when all are
completions so clearly presented in the Completion pane.
