Terry, your suggestion for \newcommand is good, I use that often as well, 
especially for cross-file use. Edward mentioned in another post that he 
likes to see the full text of the clone, not just a pointer to it. That's 
how I prefer it most of the time as well. It's simply easier to fix 
something right there than to go back to the original.
