That's the easy way out ;-)

I'd like to see something more interactive; and I'm prepared to put my
money (coding-skills) where my mouth is. Something like ldconfig.ldr
support, but extend it to another file where name aliases can be defined.
Then the various color naming schemes can be included, and the user can
display what s/he likes, without having to switch among config files modally.

We'll see. ldconfig.ldr support would be the first level. Anything extra is
just
cream on top.

I like ldconfig.ldr because it's so open-ended. Also, only one program that
I know of supports it right now, so it's not completely locked down with
backward compatibility issues.

As I pointed out, there's a way to do that (we need a way to tag tires and
belts properly, but if we can't get that into the LDRAW standard, then a text
list
of "rubber parts" wouldn't be hard to do either).

You happen to be talking to the one guy most able to help with that
endeavour :-). I have (I believe) the most complete list of elements available
outside of TLG -- yes, I believe better than what Peeron has. And I have
inventory information that rivals them quite well (LUGNET at one time was
going to take my info over the Peeron stuff). If anyone can get that table
set up, I'm the guy. It's all just a matter of time...
