Something changed with Ubuntu, the auto config used to work with older
versions. Anyway, I checked in a fix for the 0.75 tag, just run 'make
config' and it will compile again (tested with Ubuntu 8.10).

  You should use the 0.75 tag, sorry about the confusion. I know the
versions are a mess right now, it's a long story but it should be back to
normal once 0.76 is released and I can switch development back to the trunk.
