If you can reproduce it then I'll probably know exactly what's happening. This gets into that realm of me not understanding what the relation between groups and story time is supposed to be. When you group pieces they are generally treated as a unit, but if some pieces aren't visible then they aren't selected. This creates scenarios where (without the new group view) you could lose track of where pieces are and possibly orphan pieces that should have been included in a group operation.
