I had wished about that too. Here are a few thoughts that came
to me:

What about abandoned colors (old greys etc.)?
Ok, there could be several lists:
    - Lego-available,
    - BrickLink-available,
    - my own stash-available, etc.

(For that matter, Leocad could also have an easy way to choose
 between different part-databases:
    - every pieces ever made,
    - only Lego (Pick-a-brick or current sets)-available,
    - my own stash, etc.)

How to get (and keep up to date) this information?
- The Lego Group doesn’t provide this information
(but it must be somewhere in LDD, although I don’t know
how easy it could be to extract it nor if it could be
    redistributed after extraction)
- I don’t think BrickLink’s ToS allows automatic queries
- Do you know about other sites’ DB?

By the way, another complication to using a foreign database:
LDraw’s, TLG’s and BrickLink’s part ids are sometimes different
(AFAICT mostly some older parts and about all patterned parts).
