Did you re-run ./CVSMake after getting the new directory ?
(That's necessary to create autopackage/Makefile.in which
 configure uses to create autopackage/Makefile).

Danny

This is the content of my autopackage directory now:

total 32
drwxrwx--- 3 michel pkdev 4096 Apr 6 17:30 .
drwxrwx--- 12 michel pkdev 4096 Apr 7 10:07 ..
-rw-rw---- 1 michel pkdev 57 Mar 31 21:17 .cvsignore
drwxrwx--- 2 michel pkdev 4096 Apr 6 17:29 CVS
-rw-rw---- 1 michel pkdev 174 Mar 30 21:49 Makefile.am
-rw-rw---- 1 michel pkdev 7175 Apr 7 10:06 Makefile.in
-rw-rw---- 1 michel pkdev 1903 Apr 1 16:26 default.apspec.in

Problem is, at the top:

-rwxrwx--- 1 michel pkdev 494948 Oct 8 16:14 configure
-rwxrwx--- 1 michel pkdev 15504 Apr 6 11:43 configure.in

So, I'm just lucky that CVSMake does not remove configure manu militari (it should, in theory, no?). And the failure of CVSMake because of oldish autotools is more serious than it looks from the output listing.

I really need that URL and those instructions to do with autotools exactly what *you* do. Alternative: for autochallenged people like me, create a special subdir in cvs where the results of CVSMake would be distributed (as they are in the tarballs), with a flag to CVSMake to tell it to copy from the subdir instead of using autotools.

Aie aie, not completely fixed:

Making all in autopackage
make[1]: Entering directory `/pktbes02/dsk3/people/michel/internet/lesstif-cvs/autopackage'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `all'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/pktbes02/dsk3/people/michel/internet/lesstif-cvs/autopackage'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

This was after configure --enable-static --disable-shared
