I am not familiar with macosx 10.4, but previously you had two installable packages: user only and development header/libraries. There are various toolkits out there GTK Qt etc - are these the same > as Xt? - it isn't clear to me. no, they are not the same. Xt is intrinsic in X11 and is always available, you may miss the headers. Gtk, Qt are user toolkits comparable to LessTif/ Motif instead.
