The platform-specific .cf file may define ThreadsCompileFlags,
HasThreadSafeAPI, SystemMTDefines (e.g. -D_REENTRANT) and
ThreadsLibraries (e.g. -lpthread). If they're not defined, you don't get
threadsafe X libraries (well, actually, HasThreadSafeAPI has a default
of YES, but NetBSD, Win32, Cygwin, Luna, SCO*, Ultrix and USL define it
to NO.)
