Well, I guess we also tend grow but nowadays size is not
really a critical issue.
And portability? Interesting question.
Some problems on 64 bit alpha systems have been resolved
(... not soo sure; somewhere I changed once e.g. a hardcoded
limit, so it may be just that the bug is less likely to show up),
but it's still showing less quality than on 32bit i86.
And while we get reports from other platforms as well,
our main are of experience is still i86 IMHO ...

shows other systems as well, but e.g. my last request to
submit new entries here, did not bring updates to some quite
old entries (wasn't really meant that way as I confess).
[the less sophisticated but more important issue of supporting
the shared lib system on arbitrary systems is getting much better these
days as mentioned here already. We're now going to use libtool
1.4.x and have dropped some legacy code in the Makefile depending
on .so shared lib file extension]
