Hello -
I'm returning to our favorite ISP (voice dripping with sarcasm...)
We have a small, active list with one member that has an AOL address. When we converted the list over from another service to a shared, hosted LetterRip server, she reported inconsistent receipt of messages from the list.
I've had a couple of conversations with the postmaster service at AOL. (For those unfamiliar with them, they have a web site http://postmaster.info.aol.com and a toll free phone 888-212-5537.) I've had pleasant and reasonably intelligent conversations with these folks. We've been successful in getting the LRP server white listed - which they recommend for any server sending AOL more than 100 messages in a week, I believe.
Here's one clue - and I'd appreciate some predictions/explanations on how LRP handles it. One message that did not go through to the AOL recipient had this message in the log:
ERROR!! SMTP error, LetterRip sent:"DATA" .... server responded:"421 SERVICE NOT AVAILABLE"
Would this result in that message staying in the outgoing queue - to be tried later? It did not appear in the bounce digest for the list later that day.
....Doug
