I would never have noticed this except that I spent all day editing an address list and someone actually complained about getting some mail list mail after they had sent an unsubscribe message. After some testing I confirmed that if I have an address list open for a mail list, my subscribe/unsubscribe attempts to a list are not processed until the address list window is closed.
I would have thought that an open address list would be opened read only and polled occasionally to see if it changed, and then reloaded when changes occurred. When edited directly, it would be opened (in another thread) read-write momentarily during the add/deletion operation, and reloaded. At least that's what I'd like to see so an address list which is open wouldn't affect (un)subscribes. Any chance this is improved upon in an unofficial release?
