Some people look at a rectangle, and call it a square. They can swear on their life that it is a square, and may get violently defensive if someone disputes it, because identifying a square is so elementary. Of course, the reason they would call a rectangle a square is because they are unaware of the definition of a rectangle. "Square" is a commonly misused word.
Another commonly misused word is "freedom". The dictionary describes freedom as a condition of being unrestricted, independent, and free of restraints. Freedom in its purity can be chaos. "Freedom" is usually misused for promotion of another concept. In particular the Free Software Foundation, various governments, and religions, believe that freedom can not exist without security (physical and spiritual). Perhaps it is true that security is the egg for freedom, but that doesn't mean that freedom and security are the same thing, or that chickens and eggs are the same thing. All security is a degree of fascism. Constitutions usually are a contract describing a balance between security and freedom. So anyway. What I'm looking for is a new word that means "a balance of security and freedom". The word "constitutional" doesn't really work, because a constitution can be anything. The latin word for freedom is "libertas". The latin word for security is "obses". So maybe something like "liberses"? French has fewer words than english.. in french liberty and freedom are the same word. Maybe another language has a more specific word for this. robert -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-chat FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
