Sorry for not replying sooner, been cleaning out the barrel and bucket
ready for a fresh brew of 40 pints of bitter.

The swap is not important and to be honest since the amount of memory
is normally over 2 or 3 GB nowadays I have never seen the swap space
ever get used, I have monitored using 'top'.

I have added the grub entry to my existing grub 'menu.lst' is this the
same as the grub.cfg shown in the LFS book.
Either way it doesn't boot but it is an Error15: file not found... so
at the moment nothing to do with the install but more to do with
getting grub to actually find the file to boot.
