I think that a forum would be more adequate than a mailing list, where the thread could be buried or lost easily.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/ could be a good candidate. There are several sub-forums there, the most relevant ones would be "Linux From Scratch" and "Software". -- Emanuele Rusconi
