despite my support for what JRJM have done here (your branch, your
rules, hey!), I still think it's too complicated for the mainstream.

so where are the non-8bit-language (indeed, apart from Manuel and Alex,
where are the non-ASCII) volunteers to test this?  It's all very well to
'ack the lack' of multi-byte, but who is asking for it badly enough to
actually help.  I remember Alex trying to get simple i18n in, and not
being universally supported.  We need some volunteers as a pressure
group or this will wither.  Wakarimasu ka?

Better published Roadmap and faster release beat rate. Again volunteer
dependent.
