I would prefer if it didn't take us another year (or more) to push out a 7.0 release. Or, even if it did, as long as the time is well spent. I.E., we are actually pursuing the new features we slated and not just letting package updates slowly creep in.
I know we have listed things before, but can we get a solid picture of what new features we are bringing in for 7.0? I'll start us off: * 64-bit support * Multilib? * DESTDIR style PM support? (To me, this is the easiest way of offering a default pseudo-style PM support. We don't actually tell the users how to package up the binaries, track dependencies or track what is installed, but we do show whatever DESTDIR-compatible commands exist for the package so that LFS can be that much more compatible with a wide range of PM offerings). Anything else? Also, as far as the 64-bit stuff goes, I don't think the task should be left up to just me. It would be nice to get some other hands on that. If we're planning on using anything that's already existing in the jh branch to port over to trunk, perhaps we should just copy again to another 64-bit branch for use by everyone. I would hope that would encourage a few devs to get their hands dirty with it. -- JH -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
