I downloaded 1.2.10 (dated Jan 2, 2017) just
now from http://zlib.net/zlib-1.2.10.tar.gz.  The  instructions from
7.10 still compiles and make check okay.  zlib.net says  1.2.9 may
produce corrupted gzip files and ask people to upgrade  immediately. 
Probably when the file was taken offline.
