Eagle Eyes! As technical editors, we tend to focus on the content. While not necessarily
a skill that we lack, "nitpicking" (a term whose negative connotation annoys me
to me no end) requires shifting gears and focusing specifically on the text rather than
the technical content. It's what a professional editor would do before the book goes to
print. I think it's just not something that technical editors find easy to do, and so, is
frequently overlooked. I know I don't find it easy. Please keep them coming if you are so

There's a reason I've tended to pay attention to the Dependencies section, and
that's that I didn't like the fact that the ordering across the SysV and SysD
books started to make it appear as though you had to make a choice between
init systems a lot earlier in the package install order than I believe
is neccesary.
(See postings passim)
Similarly, theres seems to be a creeping melding of SysD-required packages
over into the SysV book and so I keep checking the Dependencies section so
as to see if I really do need Python/Meson/Ninja/etc so as to build an
LFS system.
(Answer still appears to be "NO", by the way ?!).
Those extra packages not strictly needed by LFS are quite useful for
BLFS. LFS has never been about being minimal.
I hope neither of those views are thought to be criticism though -
more a natutal
consequence of someone espousing the "your system: your rules" mantra.
Criticism is not always negative. We welcome other opinions.
FWIW, my reporting of the missing Libelf stanza only came about after I'd made
sure that there wasn't an "Elfutils" stanza, given that the Libelf
capability comes
from a partial install of the contents of the Elfutils package's tarball.
Again, from a personal viewpoint, I'd prefer for it to be referred to
by the package
(tarball ?) name, but there you go: it takes all sorts I guess.

PS
Hoping that my 8.3 build, once commneced, will allow me to refresh the UEFI hint
which, when I very recently re-read it, not only seemed a little old,
in terms of the
packages, but also seemed to be in need of a bit of a proof-read too!
No problem. We'll be glad to update it when you are finished.
